Sub-Zero built-ins are designed to last 20+ years — when one stops cooling, it almost always makes sense to repair it. Our technicians work on Sub-Zero every week across Burbank and Greater Los Angeles.
What usually causes them, and what the repair involves.
Most often a clogged condenser coil behind the top grille, a failed condenser or evaporator fan, or a defrost problem. Many Sub-Zero built-ins run separate cooling systems for each side — so one side can fail while the other still works.
Typical causes are a failed water valve, a frozen fill tube or a worn ice maker module. We test water flow and the module before replacing anything.
Constant running usually means poor airflow across the condenser or a sealed-system issue. Ignoring it shortens compressor life — the most expensive part in the unit.
Usually a blocked defrost drain or a leaking filter housing or supply line. Caught early, it's a quick fix that protects your cabinetry and floors.
Worn gaskets and hinge closers let warm air in and make the system overwork. We replace gaskets with genuine OEM parts and adjust the door alignment.
Failed sensors, control boards or power issues. We run the unit's service diagnostics to find the real fault, so we don't just swap parts until something works.
